Creating a YouTube Account

The easiest way to post recorded videos in Canvas is by uploading the recording to YouTube and then embedding the video into Canvas.

Why? Several reasons...

  • YouTube is a fairly solid streaming platform
  • YouTube allows students choice in terms of playback options, such as speed of video, whether closed captions show, and a transcript feature
  • YouTube accounts are free!
  • YouTube easily allows for embedding into Canvas in several ways
  • YouTube will help you work to meet accessibility by doing about 85% of your captioning work for you
    • NOTE: video content must be fully captioned (100%) to be considered captioned

SWC's Google Workspace and YouTube

How to Create an SWC YouTube Account

Keeping your instructional videos hosted on your SWC YouTube is recommended for two main reasons:

  • work stays separate from personal life: hosting your instructional videos on a school account will help ensure all of your education content is kept in one place, making it easy to find
  • speedier captioning: integrating your SWC YouTube account with SWC's captioning service helps speed up the captioning turnaround time, once that systems have been integrated

This 1:41 minute video walks you through how to create an SWC YouTube account using your MySWC credentials.
