Customize the overlay

Some instructors want to remove, change, or customize the colored film or "overlay" on the Dashboard tiles in canvas. Simple!

Here are your options with each.

Brighten up your dashboard tile by removing the color filter. All you need to do is click on the gear located on the top right corner of the Dashboard page and you can check or uncheck the "Color Overlay" to add or remove the film.

NOTE: Removing the overlay can only be done in Card View.

Your course has a filter color assigned to it, which you can change if you prefer. Canvas assigns a color filter to each course to coordinate the color coding of courses in the Calendar feature.

Change the filter color for your course by either:

Clicking the options button on your Dashboard course tile and choosing a new color.
Clicking on options button next to your course in the Calendar area of Canvas and choosing a new color there.

Your course color will change for both course tiles from either location.

If there's a specific color that you prefer to use, you can simply enter the hex color code in the text box.

A hex code is one type of computer code used to indicate a specific color. Hex guides and hex color codes can easily be found on the internet. Find your hex code you can make that your Canvas tile card color of choice.
