Download Student's Work

If you would like to download student work to access outside of Canvas, you have several options, depending on the activity type in Canvas. Downloading Assignments is the easiest, but here are also some approaches to saving student work in Discussions and Quizzes.

Assignments

If you want to download student Assignments in Canvas, all you need to do is:

go to the item in Grades
click the blue Option arrow button that appears where you hover over the right side of the activity title cell
select Download Submissions

The Assignments for that activity will be compressed into a .zip folder you can open or save for future use.

Discussions

With Discussions, you'll simply select and save the content elsewhere:

open a Discussion
Control+A (PC) or Command+A (Mac) to "Select All" content on the screen
you can then save the entire Discussion thread to your computer as a .pdf file, copy+paste into a word processing software, or print for your records.

Quizzes

Saving Canvas Quizzes is a slightly more complicated process.

Your can either choose to:

export a .csv spreadsheet of how the entire class did on the assessment in one fell swoop, or
you can generate a preview of each student's quiz attempt and save or print the preview

Option 1:

For a .csv spreadsheet showing the performance for everyone in the course:

Go to Quizzes, open the quiz in question, select Quiz Statistics in the top right corner.
Select Student Analysis.
Canvas will generate a .csv file that can be viewed in Excel, showing how students did on each question and over all on the exam.

Option 2:

For a student's individual quiz report:

Click into the quiz in question, select the options button (the three vertical dots), and then Select Show Student Quiz Results.
You'll see your students listed with student who've taken the quiz (left column, hyperlinked), and student who didn't take the quiz (right column, unlinked).
Click on a student's hyperlinked name to see their individual quiz performance.
Select all and either print and/or save the document as a PDF file to your computer for future reference.
